Target Audience Feedback

We showed our peers our rough cut on 20th March so that we could get feedback. Above I have embedded the recording from that day. They suggested that our title needs to be quicker and the name should be changed to something more sinister, therefore we are going to change the speed and have decided to change the name to Sins of the Father...

They also pointed out that we did not have an ident so we are adding one to the start with our production name 'DOMINO.M.G', this will be in the typewriter effect to match the titles. Another thing they pointed out was that the dialogue was a bit quiet, we plan to improve this by overdubbing the sound.

As we thought may have happened, our peeps did not understand why the flashback was there. This has led us to decide that for the flashback it would be useful to have a textual overlay so that the viewer fully understands that it is in the past.

Target Audience Research

"U" - Universal – Suitable for all

It is impossible to predict what might upset any particular child. But a ‘U’ film should be suitable for audiences aged four years and over. ‘U’ films should be set within a positive moral framework and should offer reassuring counterbalances to any violence, threat or horror.
PG-General viewing, but some scenes may be unsuitable for young children
Unaccompanied children of any age may watch. A ‘PG’ film should not disturb a child aged around eight or older. However, parents are advised to consider whether the content may upset younger or more sensitive children.
Exactly the same criteria are used to classify works at ‘12A’ and ‘12’. These categories are awarded where the material is suitable, in general, only for those aged 12 and over. Works classified at these categories may upset children under 12 or contain material which many parents will find unsuitable for them.
No-one younger than 15 may see a ‘15’ film in a cinema. No-one younger than 15 may rent or buy a ‘15’ rated video work.
No-one younger than 18 may see an ‘18’ film in a cinema. No-one younger than 18 may rent or buy an ‘18’ rated video work.
I looked on the British Board of Film Classification website and stated some of the age restrictions, after looking and discussing our film and the restrictions we have all came to the conclusion that our film will be classified as either a 12 or a 15.  We have decided that our film would be aimed at older male teenagers as we have done a case study which says that older male teenagers would be the most interested in our film but it could also appeal to female teenagers and men and woman in there mid 20's.

Cast: Briana Evigan, Leah Pipes, Jamie Chung, Carrie Fisher, Kaylynn Beckham, Matt O'Leary

Plot:
A group of sorority sisters try to cover up the death of their house-sister after a prank gone wrong, only to be stalked by a serial killer.

Many conventions are used in this clip, for example at the start high key lighting is used, and then when things start to go bad low key lighting comes in to highlight the fact something bad is going to happen. They then go on to a dark lit road in the middle of no where, which is where a thriller is usually set and a weapon is used to kill the victim.

Obsessed.

Release Date: April 24, 2009
Genre: Thriller
Cast: Idris Elba, Beyonce Knowles, Ali Larter, Bruce McGill, with Jerry OConnell and Christine Lahti

But when Lisa (Ali Larter), a temp worker, starts stalking Derek, all the things he's worked so hard for are placed in jeopardy.

During this clip many conventions are used such as low key lighting, female victim and weapons. Although a convention is challenged when the man becomes the victim and the woman becomes obsessed.

Preliminary Task

In my group there were me , liam edwards and emily rice adams. We had a couple of errors during this task as if was one of our first tries, one of these errors was that i recorded the film in some bad spots, for example you could see my image reflected in one of the mirrors. We also didnt apply the 180% rule on one shot an accident. I have learnt a lot about different angles and how to use a camera properly which will help me in the future and our final film.

Choosing A Genre

We have been given another task to make a two minute opening for a film, to be able to create this film we are going to have to choose what genre would be best to do and then research and plan it. After some consideration our group have chosen to do a Thriller.
We have chosen this genre for many reasons, the main reason being that it is going to be the easiest film to make in the environment we are in, due to equipment and budget. To make a different genre of film, for example Sci-Fi it would cost alot more as we would need special effects.
The reason we decided against a Comedy is because it would be very hard to make the script humorous, and to find actors who would be able to play a funny role. This leads on to why we decided against the genre of Romance, it would be difficult to get actors/actresses that would be willing to do a kissing scene, which is an imporant convention of this genre.
Therefore, we feel our decision to make a thriller seems to be the most achievable, although we do now need to be careful about what sub-genres we are going to use as we want to make our film to the best standard we possibly can.
Next, I am going to be researching existing thrillers, their sub-genres and conventions.
